Otoport OAE+ABR

The Otodynamics Otoport/Otocheck OAE+ABR device is a handheld hearing test device. Its use as a screener is indicated when there is a requirement to screen for hearing disorders. The instrument uses the Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions (DPOAE), Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emissions (TEOAE) and Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) technologies. The device provides evidence of normal peripheral hearing function objectively and non-invasively. The device is especially indicated when the patient is unable to give reliable voluntary responses to sound, for example with infants. Its use is also indicated in populations of any age where objective evidence of normal peripheral auditory function is required. ABR waveform identification (Template Correlation) is optimised for infants from 34 weeks to 6 months gestational age but template-free pass criteria for ABR may be selected for use with patients outside this age range. The device can be used in a wide range of different environments for example in the well-baby nursery, the NICU, a doctor’s office, an audiology clinic, the outpatient clinic or in the home. A quiet room is required and the patient should be very quiet and still during the test. The screening functions of the device are suitable for operation by trained screeners without specialized knowledge. The TEOAE and DPOAE analysis functions of the device are also indicated for clinical audiological investigations when objective non-invasive characterisation and monitoring of the functional status of the peripheral auditory function is required. These functions are intended for use as a part of the audiological diagnostic test battery, not as a solitary diagnostic test. This aspect of the device is of particular interest to Audiologists, Ear, Nose and Throat specialists, Neurology specialists and other health professionals concerned with the differential diagnosis of hearing problems, the monitoring of changes to hearing, the conservation of hearing or the detailed measuring peripheral auditory function.
